Three pregnancy centers are now in compliance thanks to aggressive enforcement action

(Los Angeles, CA): Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer announced today that his office’s aggressive enforcement action has led three pregnancy centers to begin complying with the Reproductive FACT Act.

“Mike Feuer offers a powerful example of what happens when local officials take women’s reproductive health seriously,” said Amy Everitt, state director of NARAL Pro-Choice California. “Thanks to his leadership, the Reproductive FACT Act is doing what it was intended to do–make sure women get the health care they need, without interference or delay. Other cities and counties should follow his lead and stand up for California women.”

The Reproductive FACT Act (AB 775), authored by Assemblymembers David Chiu (D-San Francisco) and Autumn Burke (D-Los Angeles) and signed by Governor Jerry Brown in October of 2015, requires unlicensed facilities that provide pregnancy-related services to disclose that they are not licensed medical providers. Licensed reproductive health clinics must notify patients that California has programs to help them access affordable family planning, abortion services and prenatal care. This includes so-called “crisis pregnancy centers,” facilities run by anti-choice organizations that pose as comprehensive reproductive health clinics but work to block women from accessing abortion care. The bill was sponsored by NARAL Pro-Choice California, Attorney General Kamala Harris, and Black Women for Wellness.

Anti-choice groups have filed five separate lawsuits against the state of California in an attempt to roll back the Reproductive FACT Act.
