Los Angeles – Following U.S. District Judge Haywood Gilliam’s decision in California to grant a preliminary injunction blocking the Trump Administration’s birth control rules from going into effect in just 13 states – including California – and Washington D.C., NARAL Pro-Choice California State Director Amy Everitt issued the following statement:
“While we’re relieved that Judge Gilliam has blocked Trump’s hateful and misogynistic birth control rules from going into effect in some states, it is extraordinary that he did not issue a nationwide injunction in this case.
Birth control is vital healthcare; in fact ninety-nine percent of sexually active women have relied on birth control at some point in their lives to manage their health, support their families, and plan their careers. The Trump administration’s action to allow employers to deny employees coverage for birth control for nearly any reason is yet another blatant attempt to punish and burden women.”
